2017 Chevrolet Malibu Test Drive
The Chevrolet Malibu is one of the longest running mid-size passenger cars of the auto industry. It hit the market in 1964. It was recently awarded with the highest rank in competitive Midsize Car segment by J.D. Power Vehicle Dependability Study.
The 2017 Chevrolet Malibu made its Middle East debut in October, 2016 during an event in Dubai. It is accessible in three trim levels namely Malibu LS, Malibu LT and Malibu LTZ. We recently got a chance to test drive the range-topping LTZ grade and below are our findings.
Walk Around the new 2017 Chevrolet Malibu
Compared to its predecessor, the ninth generation Malibu boasts a bigger size and a more charismatic persona. The overall length is 60 mm longer, the wheelbase has been increased by 93 mm and the overall weight of the car is down by 130 Kg.
Talking about the design, the 2017 Malibu retains a sporty front fascia, which incorporates aggressive HID halogen headlamps, LED DRLs and a new grille design. The unique sporty back design combined with 18-inch alloy wheels and sharp tail lights give Malibu a spectacular guise.
Cockpit Impression
The cabin space is commendable, thanks to the increased wheelbase size. The generous head room and leg room will allow taller passengers to settle with ease at the back seating compartment. The ample use of chrome trim inside the cabin speaks about the opulence of Malibu.
The cockpit is ergonomically designed featuring impressive eight-way powered seats. The front dash extends the Chevrolet MyLink infotainment display and an amazing climate control system.
The boot space measures approximately 447 liters, which is comparatively lesser than its rival, the 2017 Hyundai Sonata (461 liters).

The 2017 Chevrolet Malibu is available in only one engine option:
- The 2.5L ECOTEC unit with 186 horsepower and 249 Nm of torque
The engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission system.
Driving Dynamics
The Malibu renders phenomenal performance. Although, the gearbox feels a little sluggish at times, but that’s because, the Malibu is more focused toward offering an economical drive. The drive quality is very smooth and relaxing with no unnecessary jerks.
The best part is the ability to shift gears manually via buttons located above the shift knob. The steering wheel features mounted controls, so you don’t have to take your hands of the wheel while driving.
The handling is splendid, thanks to the responsive power steering, which makes it easy to cruise around the sharp corners.
I was able to go from 0 to 100 km/h in just 8.2 seconds. The company limited top speed is 220 km/h. Besides offering a magnificent drive, the 2017 Malibu is also highly fuel efficient. It consumed around 14.3 km/L during our test drive.
