EPA has rated the 2020 Tesla Model S at 402 miles (647 km), making it the world’s first electric vehicle offering 400-plus miles drive range. Tesla has been continuously improving its electric drive range since the introduction of its first vehicle. However, after the launch of the Tesla Roadster, this drive gained momentum.
Of note, the 2020 Tesla Model S will not be the only vehicle with a 400-Plus miles range in the future. Lucid Motors has revealed its first EV, the Air, which will hit the roads later this year with more than 400 miles of range. Tesla did not want another automaker to take this crown and this is the reason they bumped up the Model S’ drive range.
Tesla has been working on the 400+ mile EPA rating for some time and was hoping to achieve it earlier. However, the last time, EPA tested the electric sedan it covered 391 miles. Elon Musk was not happy about it and blamed EPA that they forgot the keys inside the car during the night, which drained the battery by 2%. However, EPA did not approve of this claim.
Here are the top 6 EVs according to EPA-rated range:
2020 Tesla Model S | 402 miles |
2020 Tesla Model X | 351 miles |
2020 Tesla Model 3 Long Range | 330 miles |
2020 Tesla Model Y | 316 miles |
2020 Chevrolet Bolt EV | 259 miles |
