The 2021 Volkswagen Golf GTI broke cover before its official debut at the 2020 Geneva International Motor Show. Unfortunately, the show was canceled yesterday due to the coronavirus outbreak. It means fans will not be able to see this eight-generation hot hatchback live from the show floor. However, we are here today to reveal everything we know about the new GTI.
The German automaker has updated the GTI’s styling cues by adding a light-up bar above the radiator grille, which stretches across the front-end. Another exclusive addition is the LED light clusters (optional) in the honeycomb front bumper. The hot hatch also gets a new five-spoke wheel design.
At the rear, we find fresh LED taillights and updated slanted rear spoiler. We can also see the new red GTI logo in a different font, which is now placed in the center.
Those who feel these changes are very subtle would be happy to know that Volkswagen has made a number of changes inside to make this offering exclusive. The 2021 Volkswagen Golf GTI gets a fresh 10-inch infotainment system, digital gauges, and ambient lighting. The 10.2-inch digital cluster is optional. The plaid seats are still there along with an updated center console and a square-shaped start/stop button. The steering wheel has got a fresh VW logo, and we also get almost all the styling elements that we loved in the previous GTIs.
Unfortunately, in the power department, Volkswagen couldn’t delight all the fans. The new GTI still has the old turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder good for 245 horsepower and 370 Newton-meters of torque (European-spec). The engine pairs with either a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. To improve the ride comfort, the automaker has added a new adaptive chassis control system that responses abruptly in different driving conditions.
The company did not reveal the pricing and performance specs of the 2021 Volkswagen Golf GTI. We were expecting some new details at the show but that’s not going to happen. For such details, we have to wait for another official press release from the automaker. However, we can tell the pricing of the ongoing GTI model; it starts from AED 145,000.
