Citroën decided to abandon the “C5” moniker in Europe in 2017, as they stopped production of the midsize sedan and wagon couple. However, they re-introduced it after a year in the shape of an SUV. With the C5 Aircross, we also witnessed the C5 X liftback model and now the crossover has received its mid-cycle refresh.
Exterior Design
The 2022 Citroen Aircross comes with new headlights that feature separate LED strips for the daytime running lights fixed over the central cluster. The French carmaker first brought the new trend for the second-generation C4 Picasso (2013), and it now seems to be returning to all-in-one headlights.
Since seemingly most vehicles require light rods, Citroën has fixed one here in an unusual way. Instead of a steady line, the front fascia features two disrupted streaks going in parallel to border the company logo, which is refined in black lacquer with chrome trim.
Other than that, we find a restyled bumper that gives the vehicle a bulkier appearance, augmented by the larger lower air intake. The automaker changed the square trim elements with the vertical air vents, which are quite handy in improving the airflow.
The modifications at the back are less significant, as we see the taillights with a similar size than before but their housings are a little distinct. The lights also receive new LED graphics at the back of the black-tinted glass. Other prominent alterations include new 18-inch wheels and shiny black side mirror caps, and matte black roof rails.
Interior Changes
The interior also receives some good changes starting with the restyled centre console to contain a separate screen for the infotainment system. This time the engineers separated the air vents from the touchscreen and shifted them lower to make space for the 10-inch display. The good news is, Citroen didn’t abandon the isolated controls for the climate settings. Moreover, they have switched the solid gear selector with a small switch.
The new 2022 Citroen C5 Aircross comes with a new driving mode selector that enables drivers to switch between Hybrid, Electric, and Sport. Besides, we find another USB port and additional storage space. For added comfort and convenience, Citroen added heated and massaging front seats as well as 15 millimeters of foam. Buyers can also add Alcantara and perforated leather upholstery for extra dough.
Availability and Price
The facelifted Citroen C5 Aircross will hit the dealerships in Europe this summer to augment the already impressive sales. The automaker has sold over 260,000 units of the crossover so far. The UAE debut should happen around that time, as well.
The pricing details aren’t available yet but for reference, we can tell you that the 2021 Aircross starts here at AED 89,900.
