The 2022 Volkswagen Golf R has been revealed boasting more power and better tech than its predecessor has. In fact, VW says it is the most powerful Golf ever.
The new 2022 Volkswagen Golf R features a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder engine yielding 315 horsepower (235 kilowatts) and 310 pound-feet (420 newton-meters), which is 27-horse and 15-lb-ft more than the outgoing model. The engine can be paired with either a six-speed manual transmission or an optional seven-speed DSG. VW says the Golf R can hit 96 km/h in only 4.7 seconds and top out at 250 km/h (155 mph).
The 2022 Golf R encompasses a 4Motion all-wheel drive, which is a little different from the previous models. The engineers installed a new rear differential that supplies power irregularly between the axles. Moreover, the automaker completely rearranged the strut-type front and multi-link rear suspension, making it stiffer and lower than the outgoing model.
Not only the performance has been enhanced, the hatchback also receives a new front bumper with a motorsport-inspired splitter, R-specific air intake grilles, and gloss black parts. Moreover, it gets a pair of 19-inch alloy wheels with summer performance tires.
The cabin has also received a number of updates including VW’s Digital Cockpit with a virtual instrument cluster. The touchpad controllers on the steering wheel along with an exclusive “R” button to activate the Race drive mode are also new to the 2022 Volkswagen Golf R.
The hot hatch will hit the US roads before the end of 2021. The pricing details are unknown yet. However, we can tell it will be higher than the 2020 Golf starting at AED 80,594.
