Honda, a company with a history of hybrid cars dating back to the late 1990s, is now venturing into the world of full electrification with the 2024 Honda Prologue, a compact crossover with a targeted 300-mile range. This marks their first serious electric vehicle (EV) effort.
As previously reported, the Honda Prologue shares an Ultium platform and battery with GM’s electric models like the Chevrolet Blazer EV. However, Honda is confident that its unique suspension tuning, styling, and cabin design will set it apart. The battery features an 85.0-kilowatt-hour capacity, giving the most efficient models an estimated 300-mile range. It will come in single- and dual-motor versions, with the all-wheel-drive variant producing 288 horsepower and 333 pound-feet of torque.
Exterior
In terms of size, the 2024 Honda Prologue closely matches the Passport but features a lengthier 121.8-inch wheelbase. It lends it a more stable look with wheels smartly placed at the corners. The exterior showcases sleek elements such as narrow headlights, a gloss black grille panel, and subtle air curtains. The spacious wheelbase leads to a streamlined rear end with the distinctive Honda:e typeface on the hatch.
While the Prologue’s drag coefficient remains undisclosed, Honda has optimized the 19-inch wheels on the EX and Touring models and the 21-inch wheels on the Elite to minimize turbulence. These larger alloys are the largest ever fitted to a Honda production vehicle, enhancing its aesthetics.
Interior
Inside, the Prologue features standard Google Built-In, offering a sense of familiarity for those trading in an Accord Hybrid. The 11.0-inch digital gauge cluster and 11.3-inch infotainment display promise impressive graphics and responsiveness, integrating Google Maps, Assistant, and the Play app store. The cabin offers excellent storage, including open storage beneath the center console, generous cupholders, and a spacious cubby between the front passengers. However, taller passengers may find limited headroom and thigh support in the rear.
Powertrain
The Prologue offers a single-motor front-wheel-drive variant, while the all-wheel-drive version is powered by a 288 hp and 333 lb-ft motor. Honda estimates a 300-mile range for the most efficient Prologue configuration, with the potential to drop to around 260 miles with all-wheel drive and larger wheels. Charging options include an at-home station providing 11.5 kilowatts for a potential full charge in less than eight hours and a 7.6-kW portable charging kit.
Charging
DC fast charging is available at 155 kW, although some competitors offer higher rates. Honda offers various charging solutions, including an 11.5-kW at-home charger with incentives and credits, a 7.6-kW portable charger, and a charging credit option. Honda is also part of a venture to establish 1,350 high-power charging stations nationwide by 2030.
Honda’s commitment to a zero-emissions future is evident, with a goal of achieving 100 percent zero-emissions vehicle sales by 2040. The Prologue is just the beginning, as Honda plans to introduce more EVs, including one based on its brand-specific “e: Architecture” platform in 2025.
Price
The 2024 Honda Prologue is competitively priced in the high-$40,000 range, offering standard features like Honda Sensing, Google Built-In, heated front seats, and wireless device charging. While it may face challenges in terms of interior space and charging rate compared to some rivals, it represents a significant step toward Honda’s electric future. The Prologue’s debut paves the way for more exciting EV offerings from Honda, and it holds the potential to redefine the company’s position in the electric vehicle market.
