Tesla has a knack for being in the news for all the good reasons. Whether it is for the introduction of the Tesla Roadster or for creating a world record towing a plane. The Tesla Model X towed a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner for a whopping 987 feet achieving the Guinness World Record for the heaviest tow by a production vehicle.
The crossover SUV achieved the feat in Melbourne, Australia towing a Qantas Airline plane. The passenger plane weighs a massive 286,600 pounds, a huge leap from Model X’s towing capacity of 5,112 pounds.
However, Tesla is not the first one to have set a towing record and not the first one to do it by pulling an airplane. Porsche tried towing an Airbus A380 with their Cayenne diesel covering a distance of 137 feet. It is to be noted that the A380 weighs (630,000 pounds) more than the Dreamliner, being the world’s largest commercial jet plane.
The Tesla Model X towed a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner thanks to its 603 horsepower and 713 lb-ft of torque P100D dual electric motor.
