In recent years, the Toyota Land Cruiser has undergone a significant transformation. The old, massive luxury vehicle that was synonymous with the brand is no more. In its place, there’s a compact truck with a four-cylinder engine and a retro flair. However, this change applies only to the American market, as the Land Cruiser still comes in various sizes and styles worldwide, including the GCC.
Introducing the latest addition to the lineup: the Land Cruiser SE, the very first all-electric model wearing the LC emblem. At least, I believe it’s the inaugural all-electric model. Toyota revealed the SE with minimal details on a Friday evening in the US, a tactic often employed for releasing significant news to the world.
Toyota mentioned that this particular model, currently in the concept stage, is designed to deliver a high-torque electric driving experience with three rows. They also highlight the Land Cruiser’s urban and “on-road” quietness, emphasising its focus on urban driving. Interestingly, it employs a monocoque design, according to Toyota, making it suitable for rough terrain, although its design, low clearances, and low-profile tires suggest it’s more at home in a mall parking lot.
Dimensionally, the LC measures approximately 202.0 inches in length, 78.0 inches in width, and 67.0 inches in height, making it quite similar in size to the Grand Highlander. However, the Grand Highlander is a fine vehicle but not the ideal choice for serious off-roading adventures.
Toyota hasn’t disclosed any additional specifics, including motor count, power, or battery capacity. However, to rival a vehicle like the Rivian R1S, the LC must boast strong features and command a premium price. Despite this, its appearance exudes a robust and attractive aura, ensuring its popularity. Expect to spot more LCs at Moab Elementary than on the actual trails.
