2023 Porsche Taycan Gets More Drive Range and Quicker Charging Capability

Porsche introduced the Taycan three years ago and moved over 75,000 units of this zero-emission vehicle around the world. It was well-received, and we believed it would be the brand’s best-selling model in the U.S. However, it couldn’t happen as the brand’s most popular 911 is still on the top. To make the offering more desirable, Porsche has unveiled the 2023 Taycan with some updates that will also be surprisingly accessible on models sold in 2020.

The engineers have improved the EV’s 71.0-kWh and 83.7-kWh batteries’ cooling and heating mechanism. It allows them to achieve the 270-kW highest charging speed at a greater state of charge. In other words, the top state of charge accessible between 5 to 15 per cent will now be available even if the charge starts at 30 per cent.
The update will be accessible free of cost for all the Taycan owners.

In concept, achieving a maximum charging speed more frequently and faster will minimize charging times. Additionally, the 2023 Taycan will deliver 50 kilometres (31 miles) extra according to Europe’s WLTP cycle. It happens courtesy of the new software update that allows the vehicle to turn off the front motor in Normal and Range drive mode in two-motor models.

EPA didn’t estimate the driving range for the new Taycan yet, but if compare the present WLTP and EPA calculations, we know the highest range Taycan 4S Performance Battery Plus model covers 254 miles on WLTP and 227 miles on EPA in America. Using this as a benchmark, we can say the highest EPA range of the new EV will be around 250 miles.

That’s not the only change that will affect new Taycan buyers. The new EV comes with improved PCM 6.0 infotainment software featuring a better display, wireless Android Auto, and more. The upgrade is accessible free of cost to the present Taycan owners who have to visit a Porsche service center. The company says the upgrade will require a day. The PCM 6.0 also lets motorists find charging booths by power output. They can filter the ones according to the charge speed they need.

The 2023 Porsche Taycan doesn’t change much in appearance except the wheels. The completely-painted 19-inch Aero wheels are gone, and Variable Light Control is now accessible on all models, letting the driver modify the roof from clear to opaque. Another add-on is the preparation treatment for its dashcam.

The 2023 Porsche Taycan is available across the U.S. now at a starting price of $88,150 for the sedan and $99,150 for the Cross Turismo wagon.
