The highly-anticipated 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander is set to make its grand debut on February 8th, revealing its much-awaited cabin and the most talked-about feature, the spacious third row. The Japanese automaker has dubbed the Grand Highlander as an “active family cruiser,” boasting of a third row that offers ample legroom even for adult passengers while still providing ample space in the cargo area to accommodate up to seven pieces of luggage.

The Toyota Highlander is, by this time, a three-row utility vehicle, offering 28.0 inches of legroom at the back. However, the Grand Highlander’s added length is expected to provide even more room, making it the perfect choice for families on the go. The latest teaser image of the cabin showcases big cupholders on every corner of the third row, a device-charging spot, and HVAC vents near the roof, ensuring maximum comfort for all passengers.

An earlier teaser gave us a sneak peek of the Grand Highlander’s bold, boxy taillights, a stark contrast to the standard model’s narrow, sharp-edged lamps. The model name takes a prominent position beneath the rear window, while the Hybrid Max badge adds a touch of luxury to the exterior.

Word on the street is that the Grand Highlander will harness the prodigious energy of Toyota’s Hybrid Max system. This formidable setup consists of a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine capable of unleashing 340 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. This powerful setup is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission that seamlessly distributes the output to all four wheels. Whether this hybrid setup will prove to be the engine of choice for the Grand Highlander, remains to be seen.

The current iteration of the Toyota Highlander boasts of a potent 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that churns out a robust 265 horsepower, leaving its competition in the dust. But for those seeking a greener option, the Highlander also offers a hybrid powertrain comprising a 2.5-liter four-cylinder and two electric motors, delivering a combined output of 243 horsepower. However, the fate of these powertrains in the upcoming Grand Highlander remains shrouded in mystery, as the automaker has yet to confirm their availability in the latest iteration of this highly-anticipated SUV.

Speculations are rife about the new Toyota Grand Highlander, with whispers in the air about its alleged Lexus sibling, the TX. This premium offering, should it materialize, is poised to occupy a coveted space between the RX and GX in the luxury automaker’s stable, making it a formidable contender in the highly competitive luxury SUV segment. The filing of trademarks for the TX 550H+, TX500H, and TX350, has only fueled the speculation fire, leading many to ponder the potential for a multitude of powertrain options in the latest iteration of the Grand Highlander and its Lexus equivalent, the TX.
